Where is the Docker compose file located?
The Compose file is a YAML file that defines services, networks, and volumes. The default path for a Compose file is ./docker-compose.yml .
Where does Docker store images and containers?
/var/lib/docker
On a Linux system, Docker stores data related to images, containers, volumes, etc. in /var/lib/docker. When we run the docker build command, docker creates a shell for each statement in the dockerfile. These image layers are read-only layers.
Can Docker Compose use a local image?
Docker Compose does not support using local images.
Where are docker images stored in Windows?
In a default installation, layers are stored in C:/ProgramData/docker and are divided into “image” and “windowsfilter” directories. You can change where layers are stored by configuring docker-root, as demonstrated in the documentation for Docker Engine on Windows.
What is Docker compose with example?
Compose is a tool for defining and running multi-container Docker applications. With Compose, you use a YAML file to configure your application’s services. Then, with a single command, it creates and starts all the services from its configuration.
What are dockable image layers?
Basically, a layer or image layer is a change in an image or an intermediate image. Each command you specify ( FROM , RUN , COPY , etc.) in your Dockerfile causes the old image to change, thus creating a new layer.
What file system does Docker use?
Union file system
Docker containers use the Union File System (UFS), which works with a series of read-only layers that includes a final read-write layer on top. This system works perfectly when a container does not need to store data.

Where are Docker images stored on a Mac?
Docker Desktop stores Linux containers and images in a single large “disk image” file on the Mac file system. This is different from Docker on Linux, which typically stores containers and images in the /var/lib/docker directory. . On my Mac running macOS 10.14.6 Mojave, running Docker version 19.03.8, that single large file can be found at:
How to find the location of a docker compose file?
You can infer the location using linked mount directories if the container creates host mounts in relative directories. Otherwise, it’s possible to deploy containers without composing, and it’s possible to use compose without a compose file on the filesystem (piped through stdin), and compose doesn’t store these details in the running containers for you.
Where to find docker volume files on Mac?
Note that Docker for Mac runs a docker engine in a Linux virtual machine, not in your Mac OS, so it cannot find the volume’s mount point in your Mac OS file system. The volume files should exist in the file system of that Linux virtual machine. Thanks for contributing an answer to Stack Overflow!
Do you need Docker desktop to install compose?
To install a preview build of Compose, see the Install Preview Builds section. Docker Desktop for Mac includes Compose along with other Docker applications, so Mac users don’t need to install Compose separately. For installation instructions, see Install Docker Desktop on Mac.
